Representational turkey. (Greenfield Recorder/Paul Franz)

How about this Vermont State Police news release?

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On (Wednesday) at approximately (12:41 p.m.), VSP Westminster was notified of a single vehicle crash versus turkey on Interstate 91 in the area of mile marker 58 northbound in the Town of Windsor. Upon the arrival of troopers, it was determined that vehicle #1 operated by (Clare Maurer) was traveling northbound in the travel lane when a turkey flew into her windshield on the driver’s side. As a result of the impact, the turkey broke through the windshield and came to rest in the rear compartment of the vehicle. Maurer who was covered in glass as a result of the turkey traveling through the windshield, suffered multiple lacerations but was able to safely slow her vehicle to a stop in the breakdown lane.

Windsor Fire Department assisted at the scene. Due to the hole in the windshield, the vehicle was towed from the scene.  Maurer was treated and released.

Kudos to Maurer for being able to pull over in that situation — sounds frightening.

And heads up, everybody. I have long kept an eye out for darting deer, but I didn’t realize I had to have turkeys on my radar, too.
