Video: 73-year-old Thetford Academy alum unveils the 1,000-point banner owed to her for 56 years

Via Josh Weinreb:

Whenever Rita Brown DeGoosh attended a basketball game at the Thetford Academy gym over the years and took notice of the list of 1,000-point scorers hanging on the wall, she always knew that one was missing.

Hers.

That was rectified on Wednesday morning during a a student-run assembly inside Vaughan Alumni Gym when DeGoosh, 73, a 1962 graduate of Thetford who currently lives in Fairlee, was finally recognized for scoring 1,000 points for the Panthers between 1958-62. She joined Dylan Thorburn, the Panthers’ latest 1,000 point scorer, in having their names added to the list.

Video: Thetford robotics team qualifies to compete in a NH/VT championship

And from there, the team could earn a spot in the VEX World Championship!

The Thetford Academy team — one of two from the school who competed — earned a trip to the Twin States competition by making it to the final round of a competition in North Conway, N.H., last weekend.

From Thetford Academy:

The State Championship is where the five best teams from NH/VT can earn an invitation to the VEX World Championship. Our performance at this tournament represented a great improvement over our last meet at Trinity High School in Manchester, NH, two weeks ago. Both teams made significant improvements to their robots in the two weeks in-between, with the C team building an entirely new robot from scratch.

The state championship will take place at Manchester Community College in February.
