A few days ago, I wrote about longtime Kermit the Frog puppeteer Steve Whitmire, who recently was fired from his job. Whitmire was very emotional about the firing, saying that he would “never consider abandoning Kermit.”
Now, Whitmire’s offering some more details into what might have prompted his ouster, telling The Hollywood Reporter of several disagreements that created some tension between him and Disney execs.
But Disney clapped back on Monday, saying Whitmire essentially brought this on himself. A source close to the studio said he was “overly hostile and unproductive.”
“We raised concerns about Steve’s repeated unacceptable business conduct over a period of many years and he consistently failed to address the feedback,” a Muppets Studio spokesperson said in a statement. “The decision to part ways was a difficult one which was made in consultation with the Henson family and has their full support.”
Yikes. Can’t we all just get along?
