Ex-Claremont officer faces criminal charges

Ian Kibbe, a former Claremont police officer, faces criminal charges following an investigation into falsified reports, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office. Read more here

The investigation into Kibbe and another former Claremont officer, Mark Burch, was initiated in March.

Separately, Jim Kenyon reported on Sunday that an incident where Kibbe shot and killed a Claremont man in 2016 is getting a second look:

After a 3½-week investigation (in 2016), then-New Hampshire Attorney General Joe Foster announced that Kibbe’s use of deadly force was “legally justified.”

But 19 months after the shooting, Foster’s successor, Gordon MacDonald, has ordered a review of the case.

The New Hampshire attorney general is investigating two former Claremont officers

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has announced it is opening a criminal investigation into the conduct of two Claremont police officers.

Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said in a Wednesday evening news release that the probe stems from information provided earlier this month by Claremont Police Chief Mark Chase regarding officers Ian Kibbe and Mark Burch.

The investigation is exploring allegations the two officers “falsified documentation related to a search” that took place in late February, according to the release.

Neither officer currently is employed by the police department, Chase said in an email.

This woman who’s cool with GIGANTO SPIDEYS on her shoulder will be giving a cool talk in Claremont this evening

I guess eight-legged creatures are her thing, because scientist and New Hampshire resident Sy Montgomery — best-selling author of The Soul of the Octopus — will talk about this intelligent and misunderstood creature at the Fiske Free Library in Claremont tonight at 6. (That’s according to Valley Calendar and our things-to-do Facebook group.) Valley News staff writer David Corriveau reminds us that Montgomery and Elizabeth Marshall Thomas gave a wonderful reading and talk in Norwich last fall.
