Center for Cartoon Studies alum — and RuPaul’s Drag Race season nine winner — Sasha Velour has an exciting project in the works: She’s set to be featured in Opening Ceremony’s upcoming New York Fashion Week show.
Opening Ceremony is an American fashion brand and clothing retailer who recognized Velour’s creative approach and commitment to fashun. The show, which is private, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9.
The Cut had full deets in a story it published on Wednesday.
Opening Ceremony’s spring 2019 line will debut in “The Gift of Showz,” a fashion show created in collaboration with Sasha Velour. The show will be “a live spectacle celebrating of the art of drag — both in New York and around the world.”
Congrats, Sasha!

Though the overall look and feel of One Dollar Drags is polished, make no mistake: Velour still makes it all happen with her merry band of queer family, while paying homage to the Brooklyn community that made her. “I wanted to come from a place of banding together,” Velour says. “That’s where we are the most powerful. And drag can be glittery and expensive, but my point with One Dollar Drags is to show that though we’re portraying fantasy, drag is accessible to anyone who wants or needs it.”
(Watch through to the credits to catch the cameo of Sasha’s dear friend and colleague, another WRJ babe!)

I was so honored to create the artwork for today’s Google Doodle to honor Marlene Dietrich’s 116th Birthday. She’s a true icon. https://t.co/KGMb5OXZBv
